About Me

I am Dassana Amit, and my name means “search for insight.” Many readers have asked me the meaning, so I thought of sharing it here.

My journey has had many ups and downs, but one thing that has always stayed with me is spirituality.

I’ve been practicing meditation since a very young age, and it continues to help me and my family every day.

Cooking came naturally to me. I started learning from my elders at the age of 10. Later, I completed my graduation in Home Science, where I was trained in cooking, baking, confectionery, nutrition, food science, and dietetics. I also worked as an intern in a five-star hotel.

I am also a pastry chef. I completed an intensive three-month Plant-Based Patisserie course from Le Cordon Bleu, one of the most renowned culinary institutes in the world, and passed with an A grade (95%).

Though it was a certificate program, it was rigorous and professionally structured, and it helped me build strong skills in eggless and vegan baking.

Combined with my years of hands-on cooking experience, it has strengthened my foundation and allows me to share recipes with both personal insight and professional knowledge.

How the Blog Started

I started the food blog in February 2009 as a way to record family recipes and the ones I had created or learned during my formal training in Home Science. It was my husband who encouraged me to start this online journal.

Back then, I had no idea the blog would grow so much and reach millions of people around the world. Over time, it became one of India’s most popular vegetarian food blogs.

In June 2020, we changed the name to Dassana’s Veg Recipes to reflect a wider vision – not just Indian food, but also vegetarian recipes from around the world.

My Cookbook

In 2024, I published my first cookbook – Dassana Vegetarian Homecooking: 110+ Trusted Step-by-Step Recipes.

It is available as an ebook on all Amazon marketplaces and Google Play. The cookbook has vegetarian recipes from Indian and international cuisines like Mexican, Italian, Middle Eastern, Thai, American, French, and more – all shared with step-by-step photo instructions.

What You’ll Find on the Blog

This blog is a collection of tried and tested vegetarian recipes, shared with clear steps, photos, and useful tips. I make every recipe in my own kitchen before publishing it.

My goal is to keep the recipes simple and use ingredients that are easily available, especially in many homes.

Some recipes are from my family and relatives, some are adapted from my cooking school or cookbooks, and many are created by me over the years. If I adapt a recipe from a book, website, or someone I know, I always give credit.
