Delhi Airport (IATA: DEL, ICAO: VIDP), also known as Indira Gandhi International Airport and IGI Airport, is the only airport serving the city of New Delhi. The Airport is the busiest one in India in terms of passenger traffic and cargo.
There are plans to continue to expand the airport if the traffic continues to grow. It is located in Palam, 16 km from the New Delhi city centre and 15 km south-west of New Delhi railway station. Indira Gandhi International Airport counts with three parallel runways.
Delhi Airport works as a hub for Air India, AirAsia India, Alliance Air, GoFirst, IndiGo, Quikjet Airlines, SpiceJet, Vistara and Zoom Air. It is also a focus city for FedEx Express.
During 2020, Delhi Airport handled 28,500,545 passengers, an important decrease caused by coronavirus crisis.

At Indira Gandhi International Airport there are the following terminals:
Terminal 1
It is the oldest terminal of the Airport and it handles domestic routes.
Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport is used as a domestic terminal, since it is only served by low cost carriers.
Terminal 1 is currently used by low cost carriers.
Terminal 1 at IGI Airport was in fact part of Palam Airport. Since the addition of the other terminals at the facility, the Airport changed its name to Indira Gandhi International Airport.
On February 2022, Terminal 1 opened a new facility of T1: the Arrival area which comprises new and updated facilities.
LEVELS
Terminal 1 is formed by several buildings for both Arrivals and Departures: T1C and T1D.
Arrivals T1C
This building handles arrivals flights. Passengers will also find access to transportation, among others.
Departures T1D
Passengers will find check-in area, security checkpoints, and access to gates.
TRANSFER BETWEEN TERMINALS
There is an inter terminal shuttle bus free of use that connect both terminals. Frequency every 20 minutes between T1 and T3. Shuttle bus is operated by DIAL.

IGI Terminal T3 was opened in 2010 and is one of the biggest terminals in the world. It is able to handle 34 million passengers per year.

All International flights are operated from T3 and some domestic flights too.
IGI TERMINAL 3
Delhi Airport Terminal 3 consist of five levels as follows:
Each level is split into the international and domestic areas.
Ground level
Arrivals area. Domestic Arrivals are accessed from domestic arrivals pier, while international arrivals are accessed from the international

First level
Departures area. Access to international and domestic gates are separated.

Transport
From New Delhi Airport there are the following transportation options to get to city:
Bus: There are several bus routes to and from New Delhi Airport.
Bus service is the most common way to travel around the city. Passengers will find public buses (DTC, Delhi Transport Corporation) and private contractors to move around. If you carry lot of luggage with you it is not the best option to move around.
DTC BUS
Delhi Transport Company (DTC) runs several bus routes to Delhi city.
Routes operate 24/7 and offer service to different areas of the city. They are cheap way of transportation but travel times are usually high. Passengers will find buses to Kashmiri Gate ISBT, Anand Vihar ISBT and Sarai Khan ISBT are also available.

BUS STATION LOCATION
All buses operate from Terminal 3, and can be found at the ’staging area’ opposite the Centaur Hotel. Use the Dial inter-terminal shuttle bus to reach Terminal 3 from any other terminal.
Metro: From Delhi Airport passengers can get within 20 minutes to New Delhi city.
Delhi Metro is the fastest way to go to New Delhi, you can arrive to Delhi in just 20 minutes from the Airport. Metro Express connects Terminal 3 with the central part of New Delhi by the Orange line.
If you need to go to Terminal 1, it is better to stop at Aerocity metro station and from there take the Metro Feeder Bus or the Airport shuttle bus.
AIRPORT METRO DELHI
Orange Line, also known as Metro Express Line, is the metro line that offers service from IGI Airport to city centre.
DELHI AIRPORT METRO TIMINGS
First train departs at 4:45am from New Delhi Airport and last train departs at 11:30pm from both sides of the line, with a 15-minute frequency. It takes approximately 19 minutes from New Delhi to Terminal 3.
Frequency is every 15 minutes on non-peak times and every 10 minutes on peak times.
Non-Peak hours: 5:30am to 8:30am; 10:30am to 5:30pm and 8:00pm to 11:30pm.
Peak hours: 8:30am to 10:30am; 5:30pm to 8:00pm.
FARES
The fare for a single journey is INR 60.00 from DEL Airport to New Delhi. To get to Dwarka Sector 21, fare is INR 21.00. Depending on your final area and stop, fares can vary. The maximum fare is INR 60.

LOCATION
The Metro station is located within Terminal 3 and since March 2018 it can be also taken from Terminal 1.
WHERE DO I BUY MY TICKET?
To purchase tickets, passengers can request them in the ticket counters located at the stations or can be also obtained at the automatic ticket issuing machine in T3 (domestic and international arrivals) and outside T1 Arrivals.
Train: There is no railway station in IGI Airport but passengers can get to the nearest one in New Delhi.
Delhi Airport is not directly connected to the Indian rail network.
